LAKE MARTIN, Ala. — In a rare occurrence, Lake Martin became a winter wonderland this week as snow blanketed the area, surprising residents and creating picturesque views along the shoreline.

The National Weather Service reported that an Arctic air mass moved over Central Alabama early Monday, bringing temperatures down to the upper teens and low 20s. As moisture from the Gulf Coast pushed inland, it overcame the dry conditions, resulting in light to moderate snowfall across the region, including the Lake Martin area. Local residents took to social media to share images of the snow-covered landscape, with docks, boats, and trees dusted in white.

For many in the Lake Martin community, the snow offered a brief change from the usual winter routine, with children building snowmen and families taking advantage of the rare opportunity to enjoy a true winter scene in the Deep South.
