Just ahead of Halloween, Lake Martin boaters can now take in the most extensively decorated home on the entire lake.

The property, owned by Melanie Shelton, features a display of decorations including a 12 ft skeleton, a 12 ft inferno pumpkin man, and a 12 ft witch.

Shelton spoke to Lake Martin Boaters about why she began the large-scale decorations.

“I was always decorating my yard when I lived in Coosada and always got a lot of trick-or-treaters,” explained Shelton. “I was a little sad that I wouldn’t be getting any trick-or-treaters at the lake. I still had a lot of decorations and decided to decorate anyway because even if no one saw it I would still enjoy it.”

She said that all the hard work setting up decorations each year is worth it.

“I also decorate the inside of my house and my porch. It is a lot of work and I have a lot of help from my friend Kelley. It takes about two full weeks to set up.  I keep adding new pieces every year so the display gets bigger and better every year. I love seeing everyone else enjoying it.”
